The anatomy class finally ended, leaving Maha scowling as she stuffed her notebook into her bag. "Indha Yadav Kishore sirku romba thimiru! Naan pesinaale avar en manatha vaanguraru!" she grumbled to Lathika, who was already cracking jokes about the earlier class incident. (This Yadav Kishore sir is so arrogant! The moment I speak, he starts attacking my dignity!)
"Class-ku poi pesama irundha daan nee safe, Maha. Nee ethirthu pesunale, sir innum thittuvaru," Lathika teased mockingly. (You'd only be safe if you went to class and stayed silent, Maha. Every time you raise your voice, he scolds you even more!)
Maha rolled her eyes, tossing her hair back in fake confidence. "Avan vaaya adika oru vaipu kedakkum. I'm waiting!" (There will come a chance to shut his mouth. I'm waiting!)
As the two headed to the canteen, Maha's mood started to lighten as she dug into a plate of vadai and tea. But fate wasn't done with her for the day—Yadav Kishore strolled in, his usual frown firmly in place. "Aiyo! Naan nimmathiya chaaya kudikalamnu nenacha sir vera vanthu nikkiraru da!" Maha exclaimed under her breath, ducking behind Lathika. (Oh no! I thought I could drink my tea in peace, but here comes sir!)
He didn't notice her, but Maha could swear his aura alone was enough to ruin her break.
The Next Day...
The sun was mercilessly blazing as Maha entered the lecture hall, her mood as hot as the day. She plopped into her usual back-row seat, muttering, "Innaiku nalla naalunu nenaikum bothu antha sir marubadiyum vanthu namma BP ethurathukune varuvaara?" (This felt like a good day... until this sir comes back to raise my blood pressure again!)
Lathika, lazily flipping through her notes, snorted. "BP enna periya BP... athuku pathila naan straight-a coma poga poren-nu conform aagiduchu. Maha, anga paaru sir kaila question paper! It's quiz time, Maha!!" (Forget blood pressure, I might go straight into a coma. Look over there, Maha—sir's got question papers! It's quiz time!) She gestured toward the stack of papers in Yadav Kishore's hand as he walked in with his usual air of authority.
"Surprise quiz," Yadav Kishore announced, his voice cutting through the chatter. "Yesterday's lesson, no excuses. If you were mentally absent, you'll fail." His eyes flicked toward Maha briefly before continuing, "This will show who was paying attention."
Maha slumped in her chair, groaning softly. "Aiyo, surprise quiz-a? Ennakku than marupadi sothanai mel sothanai!" (Oh no, a surprise quiz? Why am I always the one facing such torture!) She tugged at her notebook, trying to recall the anatomy diagrams she had crammed the night before.
The questions weren't exactly easy, but Maha managed to scribble down answers. Halfway through, she leaned toward Lathika and whispered, "Enakku theriyaadha questions ku kooda ezhudhren, adha paatha sir kavithai poduvaara... 'Guess master Maha!' nu!" (I'm writing answers I don't even know, and sir will probably recite poetry about it—'Guess master Maha!')
Lathika stifled a laugh as Yadav's sharp gaze swept across the class. "Miss Maha," he called suddenly, as if reading her thoughts. "Stop sharing your wisdom and focus on your quiz. Unless you want me to read out your answers to the class?"
Maha froze mid-whisper. "Vendam, sir. Nandri, sir!" she said with a sheepish grin, hurriedly returning to her paper. (No, sir. Thank you, sir!) Lathika shook her head, mouthing, "Nee setha!" (You're doomed!)
When the quiz ended, Yadav Kishore collected the papers, pausing briefly by Maha's desk. "Good effort, Maha... but next time, less guessing and more studying," he said, his tone neutral but laced with that infuriating superiority. For a moment, Maha blinked—was this almost a compliment? Before she could react, he turned and walked away, leaving her both annoyed and slightly confused.
"Appreciation-aa insult-aa theriyala da!" Maha muttered to Lathika as they packed up. (I can't tell if that was appreciation or an insult!). Lathika laughed, throwing an arm around her shoulder.
Time skip
Friday mornings were slower in Maha's world, mostly because her weekend anticipation made her lazy. She shuffled out of her bedroom, her half-brushed hair falling over her face, as she squinted at the smell of freshly-made upma. "Chithi, innum oru five minutes extra thoongalena na survive panna mudiyadhu pola irukku!" Maha groaned dramatically, slumping into a chair at the table. (Chithi, if I don't sleep five minutes extra, I don't think I can survive!)
Saraswathi Chithi, bustling around the kitchenette, turned to give her a playful glare. "Five minutes nee thoonguva! Aana, unna college-ku late aagiduchuna naan than villain aagidren!" she teased, placing a steaming plate of upma in front of Maha. (You can sleep for five minutes, sure! But when you're late for college, I'm the one who gets treated like a villain!)
"Relax, Chithi! Innaiku sir kitta vaaya kuduthu maatikama iruntha pothum," Maha mumbled, digging into the plate. (Relax, Chithi! My only goal today is to avoid messing up with sir.)
Chithi raised an eyebrow, her hands on her hips. "Enna da, nee nethiku sir kita class-la konjam vaangi kattikitta pola irukku?," she asked, already suspicious. (What's this? Looks like you got scolded in class yesterday?)
"Class-la? naana? Naan evalavu nallaponnu theriyuma? Enna avarukum enakkum suthama aagathu.... " Maha declared. (Class? Scolding? But what to say.. we don't get along with each other. )
Maha dragged herself to her seat beside Lathika, slightly dreading another day in Yadav Kishore's realm. "Innaiku enna thiruvilayaadal irukkum nu theriliye?" (Will there be another drama today?) she thought to herself. The moment she entered the college gates with Lathika, she knew something was off. The students were buzzing about a weekend seminar, and Yadav Kishore was one of the coordinators. "Seminar-aa? Sir-oda scene-ku oru extension kodutha mathiri irukku!" Maha groaned. (A seminar? It's like they've given an extension to sir's drama!)
"Lathi, intha seminar-oda timing thappu, inga en upcoming weekend-u waste pannidum maadhiri irukku!" Maha groaned to Lathika as they made their way to the anatomy lab. (Lathi, the timing of this seminar is horrible—it feels like it'll ruin my upcoming weekend!)
In class, Yadav Kishore was busy taking attendance. "What's so funny today, Maha?" he asked, noticing her giggling with Lathika. "Want to share it with the class?"
"No, sir," Maha mumbled, straightening up immediately.
"Good. Then focus before you write another masterpiece in the quiz," he added sarcastically, sending the class into muffled laughter. Maha bit her lip, determined not to react and give him more ammunition.
Maha managed to avoid his immediate scrutiny by huddling over her notes, whispering to Lathika. "Enna thiramaiyoda ivaru classaiyum quizzaiyum ivalavu mokkaiya nadathuraru? Namakku pesara urimai kooda illa! Life's unfair!" (What talent does he have for making his classes and quizzes the worst? We don't even have the right to speak! Life's unfair!)
Unfortunately, Yadav Kishore caught their little huddle, pausing to glare at the two of them. "Maha, if you used the same energy for anatomy instead of gossip, you might excel. Shall we test that theory right now?"
The whole lab snickered as Maha turned bright red. "Vendam sir!" she mumbled, holding her dissection knife tightly. (No need, sir!)
"I thought so," he said with a small smirk and moved on. Lathika stifled a laugh as she whispered, "Unnakunne intha sir naraiya dialogue delivery vachirukarupola.... Enna sonnalum unna tharama kaluvioothuraru?!" (This sir has a personal monologue saved just for your name! No matter what you say, he'll ruin your reputation)
Returning home after another exhausting day, Maha threw her bag on the couch and flopped dramatically onto her bed. "Cha, indha naal mattum fast forward panna mudiyuma da!" she grumbled, thinking about the weekend seminar. (Ugh, can I fast-forward through this day!)
Just as she was about to doze off, her phone buzzed. "Amma calling," the screen flashed. Maha sighed and picked it up.
"Maha kutti, weekend-ku veetukku vaa da," her mother said cheerfully. (Maha dear, come home for the weekend.)
"Weekend-a? Yedhukku, Amma?" Maha asked, suspicious. (The weekend? Why, Mom?)
"Adhellam onnum illa di. Unkitta onnu solla vendi irukku, adhaan. Vanthiru," her mother replied mysteriously. (Nothing much, dear. I have something to tell you, that's all. Just come.)
"Okay, okay... vaaren," Maha said, feeling too drained to argue, and cut the call. (Fine, fine... I'll come.)
Plopping back onto her bed, she groaned. "Amma enna our margama pesuranga? Weekend naama vazhkkaiya thalai keela maathaporanga-nu enakku oru feeling varudhu!" she muttered to herself, pulling her blanket over her face. (Why is Mom speaking so suspiciously. I'm getting a feeling this is going to end badly!)
Down the hall, Chithi called out, "Maha, inga vada chaaya saapti relax pannu! Enna innum Yadav sir pesuna tension thaangalena!" (Maha, come have some tea and relax! You still look tense from whatever Yadav sir said!) Maha let out a laugh, heading to the kitchen for a calming tea session with her Chithi, gearing up for whatever surprises the weekend might hold.
